3rd Grade
Community Partner: Meals On Wheels
The 3rd Grade students bake, organize and pack homemade treats and design cards to be delivered to Meals on Wheels for home-bound seniors in the surrounding area. They also make refrigerator magnets and write letters that are included with the packages. Last year, students received thank you notes from seniors telling them how much they liked the muffins, letters and pictures. This really made 3rd Graders feel good about their efforts!
Curriculum Connections: This project relates to the areas of Math, English Language Arts, and Social Studies. In Math, students will count and divide muffins in packages to be delivered. Students will practice writing skills as they script personal letters to senior citizens and develop written reflections. Making inter-generational connections and civic engagement tie to the Social Studies curriculum. In Art, students will apply knowledge of materials and techniques to create artwork.
