13th ANNUAL S.O.C.K.S. DAY ... An Amazing Success!
Independence Elementary students, staff and families accomplished another incredible milestone of 13 years of school-wide Academic Student Learning (ASL) today when they celebrated the 13th Annual S.O.C.K.S. Day!
S.O.C.K.S. Day is a school-wide ASL project that gives all Independence Elementary students – Young Fives through 5th Grade -- the opportunity to reach out and make a difference in the community by addressing local needs and providing students with opportunities for civic engagement and academic instruction.
The impact of S.O.C.K.S. Day continues to resonate with the community partners that are supported as well as Independence Elementary students who have accomplished amazing goals and have clearly learned that they truly can make a difference. Through this program, students gained a better understanding of civic engagement and responsibility. They learned how to identify needs in our local community and got involved to address those needs. Each child’s efforts made a difference as he/she gave unselfishly on the behalf of others.
